A first year con can be rough, but let us tell you about our experience.
The con organizers booked us 18 months before the event. We had a contract in place for our appearance. When we arrived, the host hotel wouldn’t let us set up because a previous event had not yet left the building. Inconvenient, but not impossible to deal with and not the fault of the con organizers. However we did not have a hotel room and that was definitely the responsibilities of the organizers. But we are experienced travelers and we drive to each convention so we were able to make our own arrangements for a room. From our understanding others were not so lucky. Apparently some cosplayers were also stranded when it came to a room and ended up having to pay for it themselves. We were very happy that in the end the con organizers covered our expenses, honored our contract and made us whole.
Despite these bumps in the road we decided to stick it out, honor our end of our agreement and perform for the entire weekend. We are glad we did. The attendees were great, we rolled out a new photo op and overall the show was successful.
